Different Animals
For this assignment I was asked to photograph an animal that I do not normally photograph. Since I always photograph dogs I decided to give cats a shot. From the second I opened the cage I could tell this would not be easy for me. Unlike dogs, cats do not respond well to noises, toys, or treats. Trying to get them to not only look at the camera but be in a good position and hold it was impossible. Of the four cats I photographed Mama Mermaid was the easiest to photograph and was very sweet. She just laid in her cage looking peaceful. She posed very well for the most part and loved being petted. I really liked her green eyes and her split color face and chest. Oreo was much more challenging! She was in constant motion and wanted to jump out of the cage. She was only slightly entertained with toys and treats but they still did not encourage her to hold still and look at the camera. I also attempted to photograph two kittens which was even harder. I will not rule out continuing to photograph cats, however I have learned that I definitely need a partner to help me get their attention towards the camera.

Great lessons learned. Yes, I have found the same issue with cats—no response from the same tactics that work for me with dogs. Mama Mermaid is a fine image though. I would love to see you bring out her eyes even more with a bit more dodging. You give yourself an excellent base to start with here. So glad you stepped up to this week's challenge. Good work!
